Watson Harbour: A Game-Changing Waterfront Development Headed for Miami Voters

This November, Miami residents will have a say in shaping the future of one of South Florida's most prime waterfront locations. Watson Harbour, a ambitious mixed-use development proposed for the south side of historic Watson Island, is set to appear on the ballot, promising to transform this long-underutilized space into a vibrant destination.

Proposed by BH3 Management and Merrimac Ventures, Watson Harbour isn't just another run-of-the-mill development. We're talking about a project that includes two hotels, retail spaces, offices, residences, dining areas, and - perhaps most excitingly - expansive public spaces. Located directly on Biscayne Bay, sandwiched between Downtown Miami and Miami Beach, this development aims to activate a spot that's been more sleepy than sizzling for far too long.

But wait, there's more! (As if prime real estate wasn't enough.) The project promises to deliver a 2.2-acre public promenade along Biscayne Bay, a new greenspace, a maritime museum, and waterfront shopping and dining areas. It's like they're trying to pack all of Miami's favorite things into one spot!

Now, let's talk numbers. The developers are projecting several million dollars annually in additional tax revenue for the City of Miami. They're also throwing in a $9 million contribution to affordable housing and public infrastructure. It's like Christmas came early for the city budget!

But it's not all about the benjamins. Watson Harbour is also waving the green flag with sustainability features that would make Captain Planet proud. We're talking seawalls exceeding flood standards, native flora, solar lighting, and a stormwater management system that prevents discharge into Biscayne Bay. Because nothing says "Miami" quite like protecting our beautiful waters.

The team behind this project isn't new to the game either. With portfolios that include projects like Miami Worldcenter and the Four Seasons Fort Lauderdale, these developers know a thing or two about transforming urban landscapes.

So, Miami residents, mark your calendars for November 5, 2024. You'll have the chance to vote on whether Watson Harbour will become the next jewel in Miami's crown. Will it be a yay or nay for this waterfront wonderland? Only time (and your votes) will tell!

Remember, early voting begins in October. So whether you're excited about the public spaces, the economic benefits, or just the idea of having a new spot to grab a cocktail with a view, make sure your voice is heard. After all, it's not every day you get to vote on transforming a piece of your city's skyline!
